Jad Saade: 4 NBA Teams are coming to Lebanon to Scout Wael Arakji

27 Apr. 2015Wael Arakji, the young and talented Lebanese point guard who plays for Al Riyadi Beirut, has been declared eligible for the 2015 NBA Draft.

The youngster will indeed have a chance at being selected by one of the NBA teams this summer to go and play in the top basketball league in the world.

But, getting Wael to the draft was not easy at all, and his agent Jad Saade had a lot of work to do. In order to know more on the subject, we had a discussion with Jad during which he told us how he got Wael there, his chances and what will happen prior to the draft.

First of all, Jad had to travel twice to the United States, in order to secure an NBA agent who will declare Wael eligible for the draft. The result of his trips was successful, and Wasserman agency, who already has a large number of NBA players agreed to declare the Lebanese youngster eligible and indeed did so.

Now, 4 teams from the NBA are almost surely coming to Lebanon in the final stages of the Lebanese basketball championship to watch Wael perform, and these teams are Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Later on, when the championship ends, Arakji will leave for the states, in order to participate in pro camps with NBA teams ahead of the draft. But, going there does not mean he won’t be available for selection with the national team. Indeed, Jad confirmed that Wael will be ready to join the NT if he’s called.

Finally, when asked about Wael’s chances in the draft, Saade said that he has a 50% chance of getting drafted. The scouts are so far impressed with his size and skills, and he’s looking like a good second round pick.

Wael Arakji is no doubt one of the best point guards in Lebanon, and making it to the NBA will no doubt raise his level and motivate him to work harder. Also, it will give other Lebanese players hope that they can make it to the NBA, and motivate them on working harder.
