Gretta Taslakian announces retirement after 19 years of career success

26 Aug. 2016- Lebanese athletics champion Gretta Taslakian officially announced her retirement yesterday on Instagram. Gretta, despite her great come back to the sport by winning the 200 meters race at 2016 Lebanese Athletics Individual Championship, decided to stop after 19 years of success.

That’s what Gretta Taslakian shared on Instagram:

“I was 12 years old when I was by mistake picked to be among the best athletes in Lebanon, but it wasn’t at all by mistake that I have insisted to be determined, disciplined, and persistent with my trainings, for almost 19 years I gave the best of me to this sport, and this sport taught me how I should deal with winning and losing in a very professional way, for 19 years I had the chance to visit the world, experience each victory I have achieved or each loss, I was growing up each year on better achievement and bigger goals but God always knows how and when to give us what we need, I wanted after my pregnancy to defeat myself and I was capable to again prove that nothing can stop me from my goals, ending 2016 with what I was planning and now my journey has ended on track and began with my new family, whom without each one of them I couldn’t have reached my come back… Saying goodbye to my sports career is not the word instead remembering each day how I became bcoz of my sports career is the right thinking, my heart is sad but happier to know that my message will be delivered to my kids the way it should be… Chahe Yerevanian ur support will never be forgotten for seeing u next to me this year, it’s time to focus on our family more, my adoration for u is growing more and more each day.”

Gretta decided to stop competing but lets hope to see her playing a new role in supporting and improving Lebanese athletics.
