BDL Beirut Marathon awarded the IAAF Silver Road Races Label!
4 Feb 2015 – Each year, the International Association of Athletics Federation awards a designation referred to as an IAAF Road Race Label to leading Road Races around the World, including Marathons.
After receiving the Bronze Label in 2011, the Beirut Marathon Association worked hard to raise the level of the marathon and encouraged more elite athletes to run the marathon and more importantly run the 42km by creating the Beirut542 program.
According to the IAAF regulation: “To qualify as Silver level elite runners, athletes must have recorded a performance of a level determined annually by the IAAF in the 36 months period preceding the competition. For 2013 these times are considered to be:
- Marathon: Men: 2:12:00 and Women: 2:32:00;
- Half Marathon: Men: 1:02:30 and Women: 1:12:00;
- 10km: Men: 28:40 and Women: 32:50.”
BMA are always aiming high, after achieving the Silver Label, they will certainly aim for the Gold one! The hardest criteria for this to happen will be the following regulation quoted by the IAAF: “Gold Label Races must be able to document full coverage of the race as above in at least five different countries by supplying details of at least five international broadcasters distributing the race coverage. “
We should all work together to make this happen and believe in it!
Congrats to Lebanon!
